THE BLACK VALLEY POEMS
WINDOW I
the window sees trees black as tar & smoke from the furnace neither close nor far the window sees reflections in tangerine & cobalt blue alternating between my face & yours the smell of kerosese & the light of a flickering flame such are the things that occur late at night & just out of sight her toughts lie cold on cold linen a clenched fist & a small cut just below her ring
