ATHENA’S BOOK

SHOVEL & AXE

First fog, then frost, then snow —
this time of year
things slow

The mountains turn
bullfinch orange
buzzard brown
then black as a jackdaw crow

Now it’s morning

A jacksnipe
on the skeleton of a fairy tree

Athena is in the garden
with a shovel and an axe

pax et bonum
pax deorum
