THE LAST HOTEL PART II

A transient hotel

the wrong side of town

an empty corridor
on the fifth floor

dimly lit
by four naked bulbs

an exposed wire

muffled voices

a tired man
silent
disheveled

“muchas gracias
for nothing”

room 301

a single bed
a wooden chair

torn shades
covering the only window

next to it
a sink

above it
a cracked mirror

and a fluorescent bulb

reflected in it
a pock-marked face

of indiscernible age
and origin

a pack of cigarettes

a book of matches

the last hotel

“slay all the priests
and burn the high places”
